* In April 2007, Dan Lutzick (and
dogs, above) moves to the El
Garces site as a full time project
supervisor
May 18, 2007. Non-structural
demolition continues on the
ground floor. In this image demo
crews clear away walls in the area
that will become the new Padres
Lounge.
June 1, 2007. Demolition of
the concrete dock (that was
built by the Santa Fe RR
after the hotel closed) nears
completion. This area will
have ground floor guest
rooms with private patios.
June 6, 2007 Structural
Engineer Jim Miller (left)
points out shear wall locations
at a meeting to discuss
structural reinforcement issues
for El Garces. Information
gained during non-structural
demolition led to a need for
additional structural
reinforcement and additional
shear wall construction.

cut and remove historic
tile murals from the old
lunch counter room. The
murals will be saved for
future display in the hotel.
This area will become the
new "restaurant 1908", a
four star establishment
featuring period cuisine
from the era of great rail
travel created by Chef
John Sharpe.
